Electric Rifles/AEG
AEGs (Automatic Electric Guns) are battery-powered and usually have both semi-automatic and fully automatic functions. An electric motor powers a series of gears in a gearbox, which in turn drives the piston mechanism. With a charged battery in full-auto mode, an AEG will keep firing as long as you hold down the trigger. (It is not recommended to hold the trigger down for more than 4.5 seconds at a time.) In semi-auto mode, it will fire one shot each time you pull the trigger. You don’t need to reload between shots. Most airsoft rifles used in Norway are AEGs, as they handle colder climates much better than gas-powered rifles. Proline rifles generally refer to AEGs with a full-metal gearbox. The more affordable versions with plastic gears are usually referred to as Sportline. These are more affordable beginner rifles.
Gas-powered Airsoft Guns - Gas/CO2
Airsoft gas and CO2 are the most popular power sources for pistols, but there are also many gas- and CO2-powered rifles on the market. Airsoft gas is a form of compressed propane gas that is filled into the pistol.Normally loaded into the magazine in the same way as filling a lighter. When the trigger is pulled, a burst of gas is released to fire each shot. Most softgun gas pistols are only semi-automatic, but some are also available in full-auto and semi-auto versions. CO2 airsoft pistols work in the same way, but use pre-filled 12 g CO2 cartridges containing compressed CO2 instead. Most more expensive gas pistols have a feature called “blowback.” Blowback pistols have a slide that moves back and forth when the pistol is fired, just like a real semi-automatic pistol. The blowback feature adds a small amount of recoil, increasing the realism of these pistols.
