The difference between spring-powered, electric, and gas AIRSOFT – which should you choose?

Different types AIRSOFT – spring-powered, AEG and gas

AIRSOFT come in different variants, and the type of propulsion determines performance, price, and application area. Here we explain the difference between the three most common types: spring-powered (springer), electric (AEG), and gas-powered AIRSOFTs.

Spring-powered rifles and spring-powered pistols

Spring-powered weapons must be manually loaded for each shot. They have few moving parts and are known for being both robust and affordable. Perfect for beginners and snipers who want simple mechanics. The downside? You have to reload between each shot.

Electric rifles (AEG) and electric pistols

AEG stands for Auto Electric Gun and is powered by rechargeable batteries. These are very popular and offer both semi- and full-auto. They have a high rate of fire and are ideal in games where quick response and high capacity are required. Well-suited for outdoor use in cold climates.

Gas-powered pistols - with blowback and without blowback Perfect for those who want realism! Gas and CO2 pistols provide recoil (blowback) and an authentic feeling. CO2 models use cartridges, while gas pistols are filled with propane gas. Many models have semi-auto or full-auto. Blowback adds extra realism, but also requires more maintenance.

What should you choose?

  • Beginner: Spring-powered or affordable AEG
  • Experienced player: Gas or high-end AEG with MOSFET
  • Sniper: Spring-powered rifle with bolt-action
