Want to boost your AEG? More power, greater range, a faster rate of fire, and better accuracy? Yes, please!
NOTE: Opening/modifying internal components such as the gearbox will void your warranty and right to make a claim.
The fastest and easiest upgrades
Precision barrels
Rifles normally have a barrel with a diameter of 6.03mm–6.05mm. You can upgrade to a precision barrel, which usually has a diameter of 6.01mm—almost the same size as the BB. This means that more of the airflow travels behind the BB instead of around it. As a result, it will shoot the BB at a slightly higher muzzle velocity, and the BB should also fly more accurately!
Hop-up rubber
Hop-up rubber has a major impact on how far the BB travels and how consistently the rifle shoots. It can potentially double the range of your BBs! There are many different types of hop-up rubber. Brands such as Maple Leaf, Prometheis and Novritsch are among the best you can find on the market right now!
"Soft" hop-up rubber is intended for AEGs between 250–400 fps, while "hard" hop-up rubber is generally intended for muzzle velocities above 400 fps.
It’s time to replace the hop-up rubber if you notice that your rifle has lost power. This may indicate that the hop-up rubber isn’t creating a proper seal (air leakage). You should also replace it if the hop-up doesn’t "bite" into the BB and lift it, no matter how high you set the hop-up. As a rule of thumb for good accuracy, replace the hop-up after approximately 15,000 shots. You can significantly extend its lifespan by using silicone oil. We recommend Ultrair Silicone Spray. Note: after lubrication, it will take around 200–500 shots for the hop-up rubber to stabilize again and provide optimal range.
Spring
Many AEG rifles are now built to handle stronger springs straight out of the box! This applies to most of the rifles we carry, including the ASG Scorpion EVO series, as well as Specna Arms rifles, which have gearboxes that can handle up to an M135 spring straight out of the box. The easiest rifles to change the spring on usually advertise this feature as “Spring Quick Change.” Note: It’s important that you don’t install a stronger spring than the gearbox/mechanism is designed for. If you’re unsure, send us an email with the model name and which spring you’re considering upgrading to at post@game-on.no.
Battery
If you switch to a stronger spring, you may also need a new and more powerful battery. We recommend a 7.4V Li-Po battery for anything under 400 fps muzzle velocity. Above 400 fps, we recommend an 11.1V battery. This helps you maintain a high rate of fire despite the stronger spring. Note: You must not use an 11.1v battery on rifles with a muzzle velocity below 350 fps, as this can make the rate of fire so high that the motor gets damaged.
More difficult upgrades you can do yourself
Replacing (parts of) the gearbox
It is possible to upgrade to stronger parts, f.eks titanium gears, which allows the gearbox to handle a stronger spring/battery, resulting in higher muzzle velocity and rate of fire.
Note: This is considered the most difficult upgrade you can do. We only recommend that people with good technical knowledge attempt this. Keep in mind that doing this yourself will void the warranty and your right to make a claim. Would you like us to upgrade the gearbox for you? Send us a non-binding email stating which parts you would like installed and which model it concerns, and we’ll send you a quote.
Good luck with the upgrades and Game On!
