Becoming an airsoft sniper requires a sniper rifle and some training. Becoming a seriously good airsoft sniper requires patience, focus, and time, as well as understanding and knowing how your equipment works and having good technique. You’re your team’s safety net, taking out opponents without them (hopefully) knowing where you are! The sniper role is usually filled by a more experienced player, but that doesn’t mean it can’t be you! Practice makes perfect!
In this article, you’ll find our recommended airsoft sniper rifles, along with tips and tricks. Whether you’re an advanced player or a beginner!
Sniper tips and tricks!
- Camouflage. You don’t want your opponent to see you! Always pay attention to your surroundings, but we recommend a ghillie suit if you’re playing outdoors in the woods. Just remember when getting dressed that you’ll have to carry the suit (it can get heavy with lots of equipment), and that it can get quite hot in the summer. You can find all camouflage here!
- Position. You should be able to hold out longer than anyone else without being spotted! Although looking like a bush in the woods is really cool, finding the right position is more important. Having an overview of your surroundings and your team is important, as well as staying well hidden.
- Pack light. You want to stay light on your feet, so don’t bring a lot of dead weight. For example, you don’t always need to carry a sidearm. It can easily get caught on bushes and other things, and it also adds some weight.
- Breathe. Inhaling and exhaling moves your body, which affects how you shoot. That’s why it’s important to stay as relaxed as possible. Practice different breathing techniques and find the one that works best for you.
Choose the right airsoft sniper rifle and gear
We all have different preferences when it comes to what we like, as well as different budgets! The most important thing is to look for a sniper rifle that you can upgrade the spring, hop-up and precision barrel on. Few come upgraded straight out of the box!
Next, you should choose the right BB weight. A weight between 0.40g and 0.46g is optimal for sniper rifles. Another thing to consider is how powerful the sniper rifle is, as airsoft clubs and games have FPS regulations. For bolt-action sniper rifles, this is usually around 450–550 FPS in Norway. You can find sniper BBs here!
For scopes, we recommend getting a 4x magnification scope. This allows you to see as much of the field as possible at once, while also seeing where the BB is going and who you are shooting at. With magnification higher than 5x, you will not be able to see where the BB is going. You can find all our scopes here!
Game-On recommends!
1. Novritch - SSG10 A2 Airsoft Sniper - M160 (2.8 Joules) and Novritch - SSG10 A1 Airsoft Sniper - M160 (2.8 Joules)
The first one on the list that we recommend is Novritsch's! It's not for no reason! Novritsch is one of the world's best-known airsoft players, and has started his own brand! As they say themselves: "By players - for players." The two snipers we have displayed here are identical in terms of internals and performance, but the SSG10 A2 is a more advanced, heavy, tactical rifle with a stock featuring an adjustable cheek rest. It's also possible to upgrade them by replacing the spring. The rifles will then give you around 730 fps (5 joules) with 0.20g BBs!
2.McMillan M40A3 Sniper - Proline Springer
Number two on the list is highly recommended! It's a 1:1 scale replica of the reliable sniper approved by the United Marine Corps. M40A4 Proline. Great upgrade options, and straight out of the box it shoots at 420 fps!
3. Tokyo Marui VSR-10 G-Spec Sniper - Springer
Next up on the list is, of course, a Tokyo Marui! With an upgraded VSR-10 model! It has an fps of 310, which may not be the most powerful, but it's one of the most accurate snipers you can get your hands on!
For beginners
If you're new to snipers, we recommend trying a more affordable one first before buying one that costs several thousand kroner. But just so it’s said, it’s worth spending a bit more on snipers, as they usually shoot more accurately! But as your first sniper, these three work really well!
1. Steyr SSG 69 P2 Airsoft Sniper Rifle Springer
This is one of the most popular snipers in this price range! Out of the box, it shoots at 310 fps and 0.9 joules with 0.20g BBs. It has a good weight and is well balanced, making it a dream to shoot with. It can also easily be upgraded in many ways!
2. McMillan M40A3 - Airsoft Sniper with Rails
This is a cheaper version of the one we recommended above (McMillan M40A3 Sniper - Proline Springer) and it performs incredibly well for the price! A reliable, powerful and durable sniper that’s perfect for beginners! Muzzle velocity of 450 fps and 1.9 joules.
3.FN Herstal - SPR A2 Spring-Powered Airsoft Sniper
Last on the list here is a fully licensed FN Herstal Special Police Rifle sniper rifle airsoft replica! The name alone promises something good! This affordable gem comes with a muzzle velocity of 445 fps and 1.83 joules!
