Softgun Rules in Norway

What is a Softgun?

First of all, let's clarify what a softgun actually is. Often confused with traditional firearms, softguns are replica guns that fire plastic bullets or BBs at a relatively low velocity. These weapons are primarily designed for sports, such as airsoft games or flash shooting.
Softgun/airsoft is legal in Norway, but there are rules around this that must be observed. In this blog article, we will address some questions. We have already answered whether softguns are legal in Norway, but are softguns dangerous? What is the age limit for softguns in Norway? What are the rules for using and transporting softguns? Where do you play softgun in Norway?

Read on and we will answer this!

The Weapons Act

Although softguns/airsoft are replicas and not sharp weapons, they are regulated under the Arms Act  §2-3
Softguns are NOT toys.

Age limit for Softgun in Norway

In Norway, the age limit for softguns is 18. Those under 18 can use airsoft replicas only if an adult  guardian is present and all safety rules are observed.

Transport and storage

The replica must under no circumstances be displayed or worn in public. Only you know that this is a copy and not a real weapon. Use a bag, sack or briefcase to cover the weapon.
How to transport your softgun/airsoft replica:
- The magazine must be empty and must not be in the replica
- Use a suitable weapon case/weapon bag
- In a car, the replica must be covered and out of reach of the driver
- You should never leave the replica unattended, for example if it is in a car, the car must be locked when you leave the car with the replica inside

We can recommend cases for pistols, for example Suitcase  Hard Plas

Where can you play airsoft?

Airsoft games must only take place in suitable areas where you have permission from the landowner and/or the police. Often there are clubs that organize games, but if you want to play a game privately, you still need permission.

Is the softgun safe to use? Here is the protective equipment you need!

Airsoft is a fun hobby with a high level of activity and a lot of excitement. For this to be safe, you MUST wear approved safety glasses ( ANSI Z87+/EN 166 F standard ). In addition to this, it is strongly recommended to protect the face, and especially the teeth - Feel free to use a mesh mask or similar for this.
In addition to the safety requirements for the safety glasses, the fit is just as important. Although some glasses are approved, they may not be safe to use if they do not fit. The glasses must fit so close to the face that a 6mm bullet cannot hit the eye. To check this, take a rod or stick that is approximately 6mm or less and see if the gap between the glasses and the face is large enough for the stick to hit the eye. If the gap is too large, you must find another type of glasses that have a better fit for you.

Remember that everyone present must also wear the correct protective equipment - Bullets have a great risk of ricocheting!
